Environment

We are committed to limiting our impact on the environment wherever possible, and we encourage sustainability throughout our business in a number of ways.

Our Energy Group works to make our facilities as energy efficient as possible by introducing measures such as central temperature control and motion sensors for the lighting in our office areas, and by reducing plant running times.

Our Waste Impact Group constantly seeks to improve our waste management. We now recycle all commonly recycled materials, including glass, paper and cardboard, and we are continually considering new options and solutions in waste management to gain the maximum benefit for our environment. Some of our recycling has also benefited charitable organisations.

We also have 15 green representatives across the company who work to ensure that their own areas of the business continue to drive energy efficiencies and reduce waste.

We aim to learn about and promote best practice, and we work in collaboration with other businesses located on the Science Park to share experiences, raise awareness and enhance involvement. In 2011, we worked with Bidwells, who manage the Science Park site, to organise and host an environmental event for all interested parties on the Science Park.

We run various Travel to Work schemes to promote sustainable transport and we are members of the Cambridge Travel Plan+ committee. This year, we were awarded the Level 4 Travel Plan Award giving recognition to the development and implementation of our Travel Plan. Our initiatives in this area include:

  • Providing a salary sacrifice scheme to allow employees to buy bikes and cycling equipment
  • Providing pool bikes for use during work hours
  • Bike maintenance classes
  • Bike ambulance service
  • On site showers and towels
